Native to the Philippines, Red Racer Nerite Snails (Vittina waigiensis) are extraordinarily beautiful freshwater snails and one of the rarest snail species available. Their shells vary in appearance and feature striking patterns. These round aquarium snails are known as the best eater snails in the aquarium hobby. They consume uneaten fish food, plus they wipe off aquarium glass, plants, and aquarium decor. They also clear tank substrate to keep it the correct color. They are peaceful and safe to keep with any nonaggressive freshwater fish, freshwater shrimp, and aquarium plants (such as Marimo Moss Balls, Rotala indica, etc.). These snails require saltwater for breeding and will not overpopulate your house aquarium like other freshwater snails. With a life expectancy of up to 4 years, they are relatively long-lived compared to most other snails. They are perfectly suitable for a plant tank. Some Nerite Snails are finicky about eating dry snail pellets, but typically enjoy spirulina, wafers, and other foods with plenty of plant content. Nerite Snail is sometimes misspelled as Nerrite Snail. While this snail can live in a wide variety of pH levels, it will live for much longer in alkaline water of over 7.0 pH. Acidic water increases susceptibility to shell erosion; we recommend a calcium supplement (especially when using reverse osmosis, aka R/O water) for maintaining the quality of this snail's magnificent shell, such as cuttlebone. Basic aquarium tools required, such as a pump (e.g. eco air pump).CARE GUIDELINES:- Temperature: 71.6° - 87.8° F (22° - 28° C) - pH: 6.5 - 8.0, although its lifespan will generally be longer in alkaline pH - KH: 2 - 12 dKH - Minimum tank size: 3 gallons per snail - Average adult size: 1.2" (3 cm) - Average purchase size: ½ - 1" (1.3 - 2.5 cm)

  • Red racer nerite snails are very rare and feature incredible Red coloration in a wide variety of stunning patterns and designs. They look fantastic under just about any underwater Aquarium light!
  • Nerite snails are totally safe with live Aquarium Plants and absolutely never reproduce in freshwater, so they are perfect for Aquarium hobbyists wanting to avoid snails reproducing in their tanks.
  • Nerite snails like these reduce the need for a scraper, as they are the single best clearer snails in freshwater. They wipe off Aquarium glass, aquatic plants, decor, etc.
  • They are completely peaceful and safe to keep with all nonaggressive Aquarium animals (including freshwater fish), as well as other freshwater snails (such as Black Devil snails).
  • Basic Aquarium supplies required, including a fish tank filter (such as a Nano filter). All Aquatic Arts Plants and animals come with a 100% live ARRIVAL guarantee and free email support!
